The project involved a fundamental modernization and expansion of the Nature Conservation Information System (NCIS) that serves as a single information system for nature conservation in the Czech Republic – a tool to support the assessment of the status of protected areas and species.
The solution also included the creation of a brand new portal that provides expert information and data about the nature and landscape of the Czech Republic. It contains applications, map services, data, and outputs for selected thematic areas, displaying them in their updated form.
The system is operated by the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic, a state institution responsible for both expert and practical care of our nature and landscape, protecting our shared heritage. It particularly takes cares of protected landscape areas, national nature reserves, and national natural monuments.
establishment of a full-scale and stable information support for the processes within the protection and care for nationally significant protected areas – PLA (Protected Landscape Areas), NNR (National Nature Reserves), NNM (National Nature Monuments), including PA (Protected Areas) and sites of the Natura 2000 network;
ensuring information support for assessing the status and development of monitored phenomena as well as for evaluation of effects of implemented care measures for the areas and significant natural phenomena of concern, and improvement of the knowledge database, which involved broad public participation in monitoring species status and actively contributing to its enhancement; NCIS provides a functional and intuitive user interface for all information systems and has been tailored to the needs and goals of various types of users.
presenting the results of the activities of the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Protection of the Czech Republic (ANCLP CR) to the public and, to a greater extent, to authorized entities (Ministry of Environment, public administration bodies, vocational education institutions, foreign institutions, etc.).
publishing full-scale information on nature protection, which includes:
over 60,000 species cards categorized by level of protection, including descriptions and photos of each species, its occurrence over time and location, and evaluations;
approximately 3,000 area cards categorized by size and protection significance, detailing the specific objects of protection within each area;
cards for measures and activities: documenting implemented measures contributing to the improvement of nature and landscape condition or their protection.
Main benefits
Full-scale and stable information support for the protection and care processes within nationally significant protected areas.
Publication of full-scale information on nature conservation.
