The main objective of the eSick Leave project in the Czech Republic was to digitize the processes associated with temporary employee incapacity for work (TEIW). This initiative aimed to simplify administrative burdens, expedite the payment of sickness insurance benefits, provide software support to doctors, and offer online information to employers regarding their employees' temporary incapacity for work.
The system has been in operation since 1 January 2020, enabling physicians to send all notifications related to temporary incapacity for work electronically from their outpatient or hospital systems, or via the ePortal of the Czech Social Security Administration (CSSA). Communication between physicians, the district social security administration, and employers takes place online without the need for the insured person to personally deliver different parts of the sick leave confirmation.
In March 2020, the eSick Leave system was expanded to include the option to send information about employee quarantine.
The eSick Leave project was granted the 2020 IT Project of the Year award.
Key functionalities
Treating physicians have access to it via the ePortal of the CSSA or their medical software.
The system allows the treating physician to issue a decision on temporary incapacity for work (the system provides data on the employer and the insured person's address) and submit it to the relevant District Social Security Administration (DSSA).
It automatically informs the employer, who has requested notifications to be sent to their data box or specified electronic address, about the temporary incapacity of their employees for work.
It enables the treating physician to issue a temporary incapacity for work confirmation for the insured person, a TIW continuation confirmation, submit the Physician's Report, and terminate the TIW.
The treating physician can monitor the status of their application submitted to the competent DSSA and access a section for the development of medical software.
The system notifies physicians of changes.
