Asseco to bring a single ticket to Slovakia - inspiration from successful solution from Poland

Bratislava, 20 February 2025 - Slovakia is facing a major innovation in public transport. Asseco Central Europe will deliver the National Integrated Ticketing (NICL) solution, which will allow citizens to travel across the country on a single ticket. A similar system has already been successfully implemented by Asseco in Poland, where it has brought substantial benefits to both passengers and carriers.

The single ticket will bring greater comfort and easier travel for passengers in Slovakia. From 1 July 2026, passengers will be able to use a single ticket for all modes of public passenger transport, including railways, urban public transport and suburban buses. Gradually, private carriers may also join the system. It will also simplify fare schemes and remove the need to deal with different types of tickets. The online ticketing option will reduce the time taken to process tickets, thus speeding up the boarding process.

The system will also ensure price transparency, a single fare amount and a fair distribution of revenue between carriers. The promotion of public transport will also contribute to the environmental aspect by encouraging citizens to opt for public transport over individual transport, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions and the traffic burden on cities.

The future of combined transport

The heart of the single ticket solution will be the Metropolis platform, which Asseco will bring to the Slovak market. This integrated platform will allow passengers to use one account for all modes of transport, including rail, public transport, buses and shared transport services.

The software solution may in the future expand travel options to include urban bikesharing systems, electric scooters, carsharing services and taxi services, with all these forms of transport linked in a single application if desired. For example, passengers will be able to plan a route combining train and bike or bus and taxi, with the system automatically calculating the best price and providing a single payment.

Thanks to the architecture, it will be possible to use the mobile app as a ticket carrier, with the system always selecting the optimal fare. The platform is scalable, cloud-based and multilingual, ready for further extensions and open for the integration of new transport services. Metropolis will thus deliver greener, more efficient and more convenient transport that adapts to the needs of modern travellers.

Comfort and efficiency

Asseco has successfully implemented a similar system in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland. It integrates rail transport, buses, trams and trolleybuses into a single solution and brings citizens a significant simplification of travel. It currently has more than 2.5 million active passenger accounts in nine cities, with more than a hundred carriers, including railway companies, providing services in this way.

More than seven hundred buses, one hundred and fifty trams and more than one hundred trolleybuses are connected to the system. Each month, more than 350 000 transactions are made in the system, with a total value of around EUR 500 000. The solution enables automatic calculations of the most favourable fares, ensuring that passengers always pay the optimum amount for their route. This brings comfort and efficiency that Slovak passengers can also look forward to.
