Successful launch of the Nature Conservation Information System service portal

Prague, April 2024: Asseco helps its customers innovate again. For our client, the Czech Nature Conservation Agency, we have implemented a new service portal for the Nature Conservation Information System (NCIS).

The new NCIS portal accumulates data on nature and landscape protection and makes it available to the public free of charge through various NCIS applications and services. It also allows data to be interlinked and displayed. Thanks to this, it has become a new platform for monitoring the status of protected areas and their conservation objects at both national and European conservation level. In the future, users will also be able to find out what conservation measures have been implemented. The NCIS portal is operated by the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, a state institution managing professional and practical care for our nature and landscape and protecting our common heritage. In particular, the Agency takes care of protected landscape areas, national nature reserves, and national natural monuments.

The NCIS portal is divided into six main themes: spatial protection, species, habitats and sites, nature and landscape management, landscape register, and data provision. In total, it contains almost 4 thousand data sheets regarding protected areas of the Czech Republic and about the same number of data sheets regarding memorial trees. The portal also maintains 60 thousand data sheets about the species occurring within our territory. The data sheets integrate the current occurrence records registered in the Nature Conservation Finding Database. Also new are the habitat and site data sheets, including map drawings of their locations.

The vast majority of the information and data on the NCIS portal is publicly accessible without restrictions. For conservation authorities, scientists, and university staff, the portal offers additional applications and tools that are available after logging in. The aim of linking current data and information sources is to make the presentation of data to the public, including government, easier and more uniform.
